Artist Statement
My work primarily involves the convergence of new and old mediums. My past is an integral part of my work. Technology has allowed for the evolution of many resources that hold the ability to make seemingly magical effects possible. These resources have opened up the possibility for me to take elements of the past and present and manipulate them in ways that exceed the confines of liner time. While our world is constantly changing, it is important to remember our roots and how we got to where we are. My goal is to continue to search for a way to merge the past and present. Fantasy also plays a role in my work. Illusion and imagination can help to make the impossible possible. I am interested in the fine line between reality and the unknown. I hope to incorporate new media in ways that bring life to the unfeasible. Through video manipulation I am able to restructure my past, create new events, merge the past and present together and destroy moments of time. This process allows me to evaluate my history and manipulate it the way I want to perceive it. Similar to dreaming, I hope to transform moments of my past and edit them in ways that make impossible things happen while still maintaining a sense of reality. I want to embrace the evolution of our tools and resources. Often times new developments in technology lead to the replacement of older, more traditional ways of life. By utilizing a variety of media including, video manipulation and programming, projection, and lighting in conjunction with live movement and sound I am able to explore and integrate the struggles and successes involved with the convergence of current and outdated mediums.
